From lds.org under humility in the gospel topics; "...to be humble is to recognize gratefully our dependence on the Lord -- to understand that we have constant need for His support...It is not a sign of weakness, timidity or fear; it is an indication that we know where our true strength lies."
In the scriptures, mainly the Book of Mormon for this, I read about how I can humble myself and what the blessings are of being humble. Some how to's include:
- submit to God in all things (Mosiah 3:19)
- fast and pray oft (Helaman 3:35)
- follow the example of Christ (2 Nephi 31:7)
- stand fast in your faith (Mosiah 4:11)
- general blessings (3 Nephi 12:2)
- weaknesses will be made strong (Ether 12:27)
- salvation (Moroni 8:10)
- the blessings of the kingdom will be ours (D & C 61:37)
Jesus spoke in John 5:30 saying: "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is ajust; because I seek not mine own bwill, but the cwill of the Father which hath sent me."
He did the will of his Father, who is our Father in Heaven. If I can become more humble then I can have a stronger hope that I can come closer to my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ. Thinking about humility made me also think that life might be a little less stressful if I trust in God and believe in His promises. It gives me a feeling that I can improve and that my life will be even better if I try to be more humble and let Him lead me instead of trying to do it all by myself.
