Thought of the Sunday

I am going to try and blog a spiritual thought every Sunday for the new year.  It could be a scripture, quote, or general musing.  I think this is my first New Year's resolution in ages (I generally don't believe in them because you can change at any time).  It may help that church is at 9am this year, leaving most of the Sunday for contemplation, family time, and blogging.  If you don't want to read it, you don't have to.  If you have questions, comments or thoughts, please share them.  If you want to privately comment or have a longer conversation, you can always email me directly because all of you have my personal email address.

Here is my first thought from Moroni 10:32.  Moroni was the last Nephite prophet who wrote and testified in the Book of Mormon.  We know from his writings that he was the last living, faithful Nephite in his area.  All the other faithful members had been hunted down by their enemies and he alone remained to write the sad tale of the destruction of his people.  We don't know how long he was alone but we know that he wandered the land for his own safety.

Some of his parting words are found in Moroni 10:32,
   " Yea, Come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind, and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God. "

I appreciate that even in Moroni's lonely situation he still knew which source to look to for strength.  He didn't curse God at any point even though he was alone and his people had been destroyed.  Deny yourself the worldy things and love God: that's what we can do to become perfect in Christ.  What does becoming perfect in Christ mean to me?  It means doing what He would do, wanting what He wants, thinking like He thinks and relying on His grace to get you the rest of the way. I have a very long way to go (I think we all do), but knowing what to do can give us greater power to do it.

  1. I like it! We heard a great quote on Sunday-"Don't believe everything you think." I'll have to keep that one in mind daily as well as Moroni 10:32. :-}
