Winterhaven

Christmas traditions are an important part of my life.  Just last night I was able to follow my, now eight year, tradition of going to Winterhaven to see the Christmas lights.  Along with the tradition of actually going to walk around to see the lights, we also count different things.  Choosing what to count can be tricky because you want to be occupied for the whole evening but you don't want to work too hard either.  For example, never, ever, ever choose candy canes, Santa Claus, or reindeer.

Every year I count baby Jesus' and something else-this year it was nutcrackers.  My niece counted sleighs.  There were only 11 baby Jesus' and only 16 nutcrackers.  All the nutcrackers were at the same house!  My niece only counted 22 sleighs and only a small handful had Santa's inside.  Mostly the Santa's were in helicopter's or on motorcycles.  Humph.  The number count was very low this year.  I'm thinking of counting geese next year.  We also usually sing at the house that does karaoke.  This year we sang Blue Christmas (terrible) and redeemed ourselves by singing Angels We Have Heard on High.

Here are some of the highlights of the lights.

I love candy canes!

These trees were made out of 6 foot ladders with lights around them.

It seemed like it would be way easier to lay out a tree on the ground like this instead of trying to have one standing up.

This house was on drugs.  You should have heard the music and watched the light show!

I couldn't pass up a picture of the original Lite-Brite!

  2. I miss Winterhaven. Counting sounds fun! We would do that growing up whenever we would drive up mount lemmon. Before we started up the mountain we would guess how many cars we would see. We would count how many cars were coming down as we were going up.
